The first award received was for an infill project to create a public square. The main feature is a circular amphitheatre, which was an ice skating rink in the winter. This was the first time stone had been used for the surface on which the ice formed. |

A quality award was received for this stone project, which was one of the largest, with 125,000 m2 of granite paving installed in 12 months. New records were set at the airport in 2006, with passengers and cargo growing 9.1% to 44.45 million passengers. |

The judges commented; “This scheme demonstrates how a building can be revitalised by cladding it in polished stone. The cladding is simple and well detailed, which is the key to success of the project. The fixing is to an exceptionally high standard, joints are constant width and edges are undamaged.” |
